Position: Volunteer Services/Outreach Manager (Oakland and Tri-Valley)
Full Time, Exempt
Salary: $33,000-$40,000
Schedule: Thursday – Monday, 8am-5pm
*hours will vary based on the needs of the department
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Volunteer Services/Outreach Manager is accountable to the Humane Education Manager.
ROLE:
The Volunteer Manager is responsible for recruiting, training and managing volunteers for the East Bay SPCA (Oakland and Tri-Valley). He/she is responsible for all facets of the volunteer program, coordination and planning of multiple events, coordination of mobile adoptions, supervision of the Feral Fix program and the foster program. He/She is a part of the management team, supervises other Volunteer Services staff, prepares necessary reports, and assists in other areas as requested by supervisor.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Recruit and train and place volunteers for all the various departments of the organization including Adoption Shelters, Humane Education, Veterinary Services, Special Events and Fostering
2. Hold orientations, classes and trainings as required and coordinate training curriculum.
3. Manage volunteer operations such as placement, supervision, recognition, support and conflict resolution.
4. Plan and maintain current volunteer schedule for both Oakland and Tri-Valley.
5. Manage and staff offsite adoption sites and special events.
6. Manage the Feral Fix program and supervise the staff
7. Manage the Foster Program and supervise staff.
8. Coordinate and supervise the Shot Fair program
9. Manage the Satellite Off Site Adoption program including supervision of the Off Site Adoption Coordinator
10. Give tours of the facilities when required.
11. Plan and implement special events as required.
12. Provide back up to Foster Coordinator to follow up with foster parents.
13. Coordinate and distribute monthly volunteer newsletter.
14. Maintain volunteer database.
15. Compile monthly reports on Volunteers oriented, recruited, trained and hours worked.
16. Set up new programs when needed and improve current programs.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
· Volunteer coordinator experience, other program coordination experience, and/or college degree.
· Experience in Volunteer Coordination.
· Experience in an animal shelter environment or non-profit facility.
· Excellent written and verbal communication.
· Ability to train and facilitate groups.
· Outgoing with exceptional people skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and willing to learn our internal databases.
· Flexibility in schedule.
· Fluency in Spanish preferred.

Position: Animal Camp Counselor (Tri-Valley / VOLUNTEER)
Volunteer, Part time, temporary, non-exempt SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 8:30 am-12:30pm July 7, 2008 – August 22, 2008 *Must be available for training the week of June 23 ACCOUNTABILITY: The Animal Camp Counselors in Training will report to the Humane Education Manager.
ROLE: Camp counselors in training will be individuals who are cooperative, friendly, and patient. They are students entering grades 6-8 in the fall who like to go above and beyond with any task they are given and who know how to have fun and get the job done. Counselors in training are expected to follow directions, follow through on tasks independently and take initiative on their own to get things done during program.
Job description/essential duties Counselors will be required to:
- Respond to children with respect and consideration and treat all children equally regardless of gender, race, religion, culture, etc.
- Report and discuss all problems and concerns with the program manager.
- Follow all of East Bay SPCA rules and regulations when working with staff and shelter animals.
- Reinforce appropriate behavior.
- Be positive role models.
- Be Safe.
Counselor tasks include:
- Assist in teaching proper animal safety protocols
- Help with humane education activities
- Preparing crafts
- Classroom set up and clean up
- Monitoring campers
- Leading games
- Organizing materials
- Greeting campers and parents each day
- Assisting with guest speakers and animals
- Aid campers with daily lessons

- Willingness to speak in front of a group
Prior experience as camp counselor is not needed, but a love of pets and people is required! Applicants should be entering grades 6-8 in the fall of 2008. This position is unpaid, however students will receive community service hours for working at Animal Camp.
