ABOUT US

Q. I'm looking for an anesthesia-free teeth cleaning for my dog for I believe it is a risk-free service.  Do you do this service or do you recommend any place close to Pleasanton?

A.  I do not believe that service is available any more. The Veterinary Medical Board prohibits dental cleaning procedures by anyone other than a licensed veterinarian.I would talk to your veterinarian about how you can minimize the risk to your dog while having his teeth cleaned under anesthesia. It is much more pleasant for the dog and a much more thorough cleaning.

Q. I have a 1yr old Chihuahua. I took her to get all her shots since she was 3months and the rabies  and all the ones she needed. But I lost all her immunization record.

She just turned 1 yr.  When should I take her back to get her new shots and what shots should she get?

A. Your dog will probably be due for her annual boosters within the next 3 months. She should have a distemper vaccination (DHLPP) and rabies, and possibly kennel cough (bordetella). Since you do not have a record of her rabies vaccination, you should probably get the vaccinations now, as the rabies one is required by law. It will not hurt her if they are a bit early.
