ABOUT US

Q. Hello our pit has a rash we think he has it all over his stomach, face, and back. We give him a shower and it only gets better for about 20 min and we have tried changing his bedding in the dog house we even tried changing the bedding on our bed. We tried changing his diet since we know that pits a sensitive to food allergies. Is there anything that we can do in order to help him not have his rash?

A:  It’s true that pit bulls often have skin allergies – the most common thing they are allergic to is fleas. Pits are also very susceptible to mange, which can cause the kind of extreme skin reaction your dog has. Your veterinarian can do a simple microscopic test for mange mites and it is easily treatable with prescription medication.
