City Center Mobile Adoptions

 

Purpose: Our City Center Storefront in downtown Oakland provides the East Bay SPCA with a crucial opportunity to showcase our shelter animals, as well as build a relationship with the clients who visit us regularly. This position is part community outreach, part adoption counseling, and part animal care-taking.

 

Duties Include

·         Driving shelter animals to and from the shelter (Driving Volunteers only)

·         Loading and unloading animals

·         Cleaning and prepping cat cages

·         Answering questions and disseminating information about the EBSPCA.

·         Greeting clients

·         Ensuring clients interact with the animals in an appropriate manner

·         Caring for cats (feeding, changing litter pans, showing cats to potential adopters)

·         Caring for dogs (feeding, walking, etc)

 

Shifts

Monday, Tuesday, & Friday

9:30am – 3:30pm  (Volunteers can work all or part of the day).

 

Age Requirements

·         City Center Mobile Adoptions Volunteers must be 18 and over

·         Children 10 – 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

 

Skills and Qualities Needed

·         Valid CA Driver’s License (if Driving- optional)

·         Comfortable driving the company vehicle and transporting shelter animals.

·         People oriented, friendly and non-judgmental

·         Ability to interact with a diverse population in a courteous and pleasant manner

·         Ability to multi-task

·         Detail oriented and organized

·         A good understanding of EBSPCA policies, practices, philosophies, adoption requirements.

·         Independent

·         Mentally sharp

·         Help facilitate a “Culture of Development” within the organization: treating each person with respect, courtesy, and ensuring that they leave the East Bay SPCA having had the best experience possible, with the hope that they may become financial supporters of the organization.

 

Training Required

·         General Volunteer Orientation

·         Individual training with the Volunteer Manager or Coordinator

·         On the job training shadowing an experienced volunteer. (several sessions)

 

Tools Required

·         EBSPCA Apron ($10)

·         Badge (provided)
