Feral Cat Hotline Representative

 

Purpose: This volunteer will be instrumental in helping to tackle the feral cat problem in our community. The Feral Cat Hotline Representative will check messages, return calls, and counsel clients regarding trapping, spay/neutering, post-operative recovery and releasing feral cats.  This position has tremendous room for growth in the near future. Virtually all homeless kittens in Alameda and Contra Costa County are offspring of feral cats.

 

Shifts: Shifts are available 7 days a week

 

Duties Include:

·         Checking Feral Cat Hotline; you will generally be assigned the same day, every week, to check, usually from your own home.

·         Returning calls in a timely manner

·         Dispensing accurate information, advice, and acting as a resource for clients.

 

Age Requirements

·         Feral Cat Hotline Helpers must be 18 and over with the following exception:

·         Children 16 – 18 must be pre-approved to volunteer on their own after completing all training with their parent or guardian.

·         Ability to take direction

·         Attention to detail

·         Organized

·         Patient

·         People-oriented

·         Professional and courteous phone manner

·         Ability to deal with potentially difficult clients and situations, with polite frankness and honesty.

·         Positive and solution-oriented

·         Flexibility and willingness to do a variety of tasks

·         Good judgment and ability to check with Feral Cat Coordinator if not sure how best to answer a client’s question.

·         Help facilitate a “Culture of Development” within the organization: treating each person with respect, courtesy, and ensuring that they leave the East Bay SPCA having had the best experience possible, with the hope that they may become financial supporters of the organization.

 

Training Required

·         Volunteer Orientation

·         One-on-one training with Feral Cat Coordinator
