Mobile Adoptions, Outreach & Education

 

Purpose: Mobile Adoptions volunteers bring shelter animals to various events in the community, to help promote the EBSPCA’s programs, services and animals. Mobile Adoptions Volunteers are often our most visible volunteers and help spread the word at events like parades, art festivals, employee health fairs, and at retail shops. This is a great way to be a part of a volunteer team: 3-4 volunteers usually staff each mobile adoption.

 

Duties

·         Choosing animals to go on Mobile Adoptions

·         Driving shelter animals or equipment to and from Mobile Adoption Sites

·         Promoting the EBSPCA mission, programs, and services

·         Participating and supporting EBSPCA events

·         Answering questions relating to adoption procedures, services, programs of the EBSPCA

·         Completing Cat Adoptions offsite.

·         Set up and take down of booths and cat cages

·         Handling shelter dogs

·         Ensuring the safety of shelter animals and clients

·         Accountable for funds: donations & adoption fees.

 

Shifts: Seven days a week. Most Mobile Adoptions occur on weekends, but there are occasional weekday events.

 

Age Requirements

·         Mobile Adoptions Volunteers must be 18 and over with the following exception:

·         Children 10 – 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

 

Skills and Qualities Needed

·         (OPTIONAL) Valid CA Driver’s License (if Driving)

·         Can be insured, and is comfortable driving the company vehicle and transporting shelter animals.

·         People oriented, friendly and non-judgmental

·         Ability to interact with a diverse population in a courteous and pleasant manner

·         Ability to multi-task

·         Detail oriented and organized

·         A good understanding of EBSPCA policies, practices, philosophies, adoption requirements.

·         Independent

·         Mentally sharp

·         Help facilitate a “Culture of Development” within the organization: treating each person with respect, courtesy, and ensuring that they leave the East Bay SPCA having had the best experience possible, with the hope that they may become financial supporters of the organization.

 

Training Required

·         General Volunteer Orientation

·         Individual training with the Volunteer Manager or Coordinator

·         On the job training shadowing an experienced volunteer. (several sessions)

 

Tools Required

·         EBSPCA Apron ($10)

·         Badge (provided)
