General Information
Orientations and trainings are held on alternating months at both our Oakland and Dublin facilities. You may attend orientation and training at either shelter, even if you plan on volunteering at the other.
2008 Volunteer Orientation Schedule:
IMPORTANT: Volunteers will need to register for the orientation they plan on attending. Registration will open 2 weeks prior to orientation. Please click on the orientation you would like to attend to register.
Potential volunteers should plan on staying for the entire orientation. Orientation will cover the history of the organization, our philosophy of animal care and rescue, our community commitment and information and schedules for available volunteer positions. Training related to specific volunteer positions will be held the weekend after orientation. There are no orientations held in July or December.
- Orientations are held from 2p - 3:30p
- All volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to Orientation and Training Classes.
- Please do not bring children with you unless they are there to learn about our opportunities for kids (over age 10). Please read our section on Kids and Volunteering.

- This class is required for Volunteer Feline Socializers.
- You must have attended Orientation in order to attend this class.
- Feline Socializer training is held from 1pm to 2:00 pm.
- If you attended the Volunteer Orientation in a previous month, you may still attend this class! You do not need to sign up.

- This class is required for Volunteer Dog Walkers, Dog Adoption Prep Volunteers, Dog Groomers.
- You must have attended Orientation in order to attend this class.
- Dog Walkers training is held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- The Dog Walker training also includes a short section on dealing with puppy socializing.
- If you attended the Volunteer Orientation in a previous month, you may still attend this class! You do not need to sign up.

This class is required for Dog Adoption Prep Volunteers.
You must have attended Orientation and Dog Walker Training in order to attend this class.
Dog Adoption Prep training is held from 2.30 pm to 3:30 pm, immediately following Dog Walker class.
If you attended the Volunteer Orientation in a previous month, you may still attend this class! You do not need to sign up.

Mobile Adoption Training:
- Mobile Adoption Volunteers receive "on the job" training.
- You must have attended Orientation in order to sign up for this class.
- If you attended the Volunteer Orientation in a previous month, you may still attend this class! Please call 510-563-4626 or email volunteer@eastbayspca.org to sign up and learn training times for 2006.
Dog Obedience Classes for Volunteers:
- Once they have completed Dog Walker Training, volunteers are encouraged to take Basic Obedience I, which is one of our dog training classes also offered to the public.
- You may attend Basic Obedience I (or any public dog training class) with one of the shelter dogs. These classes are free for East Bay SPCA volunteers. For a list of Basic Obedience I classes, please visit here.
- You cannot sign up for these classes on line; you must sign up for them in person at the Adoption Desk, as space for volunteers in these classes is limited.
