Volunteer Positions

Review the information below to learn which positions are a perfect fit for you.

Available Volunteer Positions

We have many different volunteer positions. In fact, the EBSPCA is lucky to have hundreds of volunteers each month contributing to the operations of all our facilities. Because the time involved in teaching a volunteer his or her job, we ask for a six-month commitment. We hope if you can't make the commitment now, you will keep us in mind when your schedule changes!

We have:

  • Positions involving the direct, daily care of our animals. These positions typically have shifts that require a weekly, two-hour commitment of time.
  • Positions that do not involve the direct care of animals, such as working in our offices or coordinating our foster families. These positions often have more flexible schedules, although we still require a weekly commitment.
  • Positions that involve participating in special events or handling the animals off-site such as at a mobile adoption. These are usually scheduled in advance and require a large part of one day, sometimes monthly.

Children and young adults age 10 and older are welcome to volunteer.

  • A parent or guardian must also be trained as a volunteer, and supervise their children between the ages of 10 and 15 at all times. This includes volunteer sessions, orientations and trainings. Parental or guardian supervision ensures the safety of your children as well as of the shelter animals. In positions that involve handling dogs, the adult must hold the leash at all times.
  • Young adults between the ages of 16 and 18 may volunteer on their own (when approved), but must be supervised by a parent or guardian during all orientations and training. This means the parent or guardian must be present at all trainings and orientations.
