KIDS Birthday Parties at East Bay SPCA
What does a birthday party at the East Bay SPCA entail?
Our birthday party program is a compilation of a behind the scenes tour, two animal activities and animal meet and greets.
20 minutes of shelter enrichment as party guests arrive*
30 minutes behind the scenes tour
20 minutes for an animal-themed activity
20 minutes of animal interaction through meet and greets
30 minutes of time for cake & presents
*Please know that in order to ensure enough time for all activities the educator will start your party on time. If party guests arrive late, they may not be able to participate in the shelter enrichment activity at the beginning of the party.
Enrichment: It is important to us that the animals in our care are exposed to a variety of activities throughout the day in order to keep them both mentally and physically healthy. We have also found that our party guests enjoy doing something for the animals. The shelter enrichment activity will be chosen by the party coordinator the day of the party, based upon the needs of the shelter that day. Possible activities may include stuffing Kong's for dogs or cats, distributing toys to the animals, making cat toys, shelter beautification, etc.
When are birthday parties offered?
Birthday parties are offered on Saturdays from 10 am -12 noon or 2 pm - 4 pm. Occasionally, we are able to facilitate parties on Sundays. Contact email@example.com to check party availability.

Where are the parties offered?
Birthdays are hosted on-site at either of our adoption centers. In Dublin at 4651 Gleason Drive, parties are hosted in our Classroom; and in Oakland at 8323 Baldwin Street, parties are hosted in the Education & Training Center in Classroom 2. You are welcome to stop by either of the locations to see the party space anytime that the adoption center is open. We do not offer at home or off site birthdays.
How long is the party?
The birthday program is two hours; our staff will facilitate the party for an hour and a half of that time. The last half hour guests are welcome to spend as they choose, however most people use that time to serve cake, have lunch, or open gifts. Our staff will be there to assist with food serving if necessary.
What ages are the parties geared towards?
Our parties are for children turning 4-12. We will adapt the program to your child’s age, however please keep in mind that the program is similar for all ages.
How many guests may we have?
The program fee includes up to 16 guests maximum. The 15 guests include the birthday child, siblings and any other child who attends and participates or wishes to receive a favor. Adults do not count as guests. However, we ask that adults present during the party assist with children as needed and help the Educator with simple tasks such as holding doors and keeping all party guests together.
May we bring in food?
You are welcome to bring in any outside food, games, activities etc. We do not provide any food, utensils, candles etc. but you are welcome to bring in whatever you need. There is a refrigerator/freezer available if you need to store food during the party.
May we decorate the room?
Of course! The birthdays are based out of our classroom and we often find that the animals steal the show, but you are welcome to bring any type of decorations (balloons, steamers, banners etc.) If you wish to hang anything on the wall, you will need to bring blue painters tape. Scotch tape, masking tape, duct tape, etc. are not allowed. Piñatas of any kind are not allowed.
In lieu of gifts for the birthday child, may we ask for donations for the shelter?
Yes of course! We have many birthday guests who want to give back to the community by asking their friend to bring in items for the animals instead of gifts for themselves. We have a full wish list of items that we always need, or you may ask close to your party and we can let you know what we are most in need of at that time.
May we bring our dog/cat to the party?
No for the safety of your pet and our shelter guests please leave your animals at home.
How do I schedule/book a birthday for my child?
